February Meeting Notice

Tangipahoa Master Gardeners Association

The Tangipahoa Master Gardeners Association will hold their February meeting at the Hammond Research Station on Thursday, February 11th at 10 a.m. The Spring Garden Day committee will meet before the regular meeting at 9:15 a.m. with chair Annie Coco.  Clara Latino, Tammy Rocker, Linda Moore, Karen Brown, Ann Poche, and Jackie Poche will supply refreshments and door prizes. Program of the month will be discussion of the Spring Garden Day. The master gardeners are an all-volunteer arm of the LSU Ag Center with gardening education as its mission.
Gardening events in the area that are open to the public include:
Baton Rouge Master Gardener’s ‘Basic Gardening’ series at the Bluebonnet Library.  February 4th, topics will be ‘Good Bye Shade, Hello Sun (once shady spots now sunny) and ‘Jeepers, Creepers’, (ground cover). 
February 11th, topics are ‘Creative Container Gardening’ and ‘Landscaping Made Easy’.

February 13th, Louisiana State Arboretum’s ‘Bird Watching in the Arboretum’, guided bird watching tour in the state arboretum, call 888-677-6100 for more information.

February 17th, Carver Library, Baton Rouge, Baton Rouge Master Gardeners Spring Gardening Series ‘Roses for the Home Landscape’. Call 225-389-7450 for more information.
February 21st, Hammond Research Station and the Tangipahoa Master Gardeners Association annual Camellia Stroll. Visit the grounds of one of the most outstanding camellia collections in the south, planted by W F ‘Hody’ Wilson. Gates open at 1 p.m., off street parking on the grounds of the Hammond Research Station, with shuttle service available for those who need assistance. Master gardeners will be available to answer questions in the garden area and plants will be for sale near the parking lot. Free to the public, donations for the garden upkeep will be accepted.
