Sheriff Daniel Edwards returned to his home church on Wednesday, January 27 to hold his monthly Prayer Breakfast. First United Methodist Church in Amite welcomed Sheriff Edwards for a morning of inspirational thoughts and a good, hearty breakfast.
To open the morning's event, Bro. Brady Whitton led the invocation, with Sgt. Tommy Ferrand leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Greg Hayden led in an acoustic version of "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and Detective Toby Aguillard welcomed a few distinguished guests.
Brother Brady spoke to the guests about worrying and how sometimes people have a tendency to make things up to worry about. He mentioned that the word 'worry' was only spoken in the gospels 13 times and all basically said, "Don't do it." Brother Brady spoke of Jesus as He was giving his sermon on the mount and read from the book of Matthew. "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important that clothes?" - Matthew 6:25.
Brother Brady challenged the guests with the question, "Why do we worry?" He said worry comes from some place deep in the heart. His solution was prayer. He quoted Philippians 4:6, saying "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
He gave three charges and said to put all of the worry in God's hands. Tell God what you need, thank God for what he's already done, even those hardships, and expect the peace that passes all understanding.
As Brother Brady concluded he said, "Now, when I worry, I know what I need to do - Pray."
