Richard Bubby Mathis, a student at Loranger High School and a member of the Future Farmers of America program (FFA), was recently chosen to represent Louisiana in a trip to South Africa. He was one of only two students in the state, himself and FFA State President Kristen Wall of Springfield High School, to be given this opportunity.
AMITE -- Tangipahoa Parish staff and students will get five weeks of school dismissals during the 2015-16 school year. The free time is included in next year's school calendar adopted March 3 by the school board. School will start this year on Aug. 6, and the final day for students will by May 20, 2016.
The Amite Oyster Festival Scavenger Hunt will kick off the Oyster Festival activities. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the hunt, which began in 1995. Although it was a success among residents its first year, the hunt was much smaller than it is today. It was not even mentioned in the Amite Tangi Digest during its first year.
