New ordinances introduced by Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona

A total of approximately 24 ordinances or amendments to ordinances introduced during the regular meeting of the Amite Town Council. The council met at the Amite City Hall, Tuesday, March 3 with all the council members being present.
Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona asked that 18 amended ordinances be introduced. These ordinances pertain to the police department and city court.
They are as follows:
• Telephone communications; improper language; harassment
• Entry on or remaining in places or on land after being forbidden
• Flight from an officer
• Hit-and-run driving

Councilman Vining introduces three different ordinances and amendments

The Amite Town Council met for their regular meeting on Tuesday, March 2 at the Amite City Hall with all council members present. Four of the five councilmen introduced ordinances/amendments.
The first introduction was made by Councilman Mark Vining. His first ordinance introduction was for bulky refuse, better known as the debris placed by the road for the town to pick up. This ordinance will place stricter rules on exactly what part the town plays in citizen's clean up. This ordinance will alleviate some of the unnecessary work the town employees are having to do.

A total of seven ordinances were introduced Tuesday night, March 3 at the regular meeting of the Amite Town Council. The council members each introduced their ordinances or amendments to existing ordinances and there will be a public hearing held Tuesday, April 7 for discussion on each individual issue.
Councilwoman Rose Sumrall introduced a revision to the Fleet Easley Park Rules and Regulations. The rules are as follows:

North Tangipahoa Head Start

Recruiting Children for 2009-2010

North Tangipahoa Head Start is recruiting children between the ages of 3 and 5 years to participate in the 2009-2010 school year for our Center Base program. Applications are being taken now at 63508 Roch Road in Roseland. Head Start serves children in the community, including those who have special needs and/or disabilities. Proof of income for the past 12 months and verification of the child’s birth date must be provided at the time of application.

Entergy Louisiana Accepting Applications for Community Partnership Grants

Deadline March 31 to apply for $1,000 grants

Baton Rouge, La. – Nonprofit organizations in Louisiana looking to fund community improvement projects can now apply for a grant of up to $1,000 from the Entergy Community Partnership Grants program.
Applications are available at www.entergy.com/our_community/cpGrant_Guidelines and will be accepted through March 31. Only online applications will be accepted.

Cell phone usage becomes hot topic with school board

In this day when electronic conveniences are not only a luxury, the are absolute necessities, it's no wonder it was just a matter of time before the school board would be faced with the inevitable task of dealing with cell phone issues in schools.
The policy committee of the Tangipahoa Parish School board convened on Tuesday, March 10 to deal with these very issues. Members of the committee in attendance were Chairman Rose Dominguez, Sandra Bailey-Simmons, Ann Smith and Sonya Traylor.
