Condemnations discussed during council meeting

Two different locations for condemnation were discussed during the Amite City Council's Tuesday, March 2 meeting at the Amite City Hall. The two were put on the agenda by Councilman Mark Vining and Councilman Walter Daniels.

Two arrested in connection with Amite Building Supply fire

Arrests made on Monday, March 8 and Tuesday, March 9

Two arrests have been made in connection with the fire that occurred on Tuesday night, February 23 at 701 South First Street (Highway 51 South) in Amite. This location was once Amite Building Supply.

Amite City Council hears from concerned citizen

Sidewalk and Street Striping Concerns - Tuesday, March 2, 2010

The Amite City Council was addressed by Amite citizen Susanne Lee during their regular meeting on Tuesday, March 2 at the Amite City Hall. Mrs. Lee addressed the council concerning the sidewalks and street striping in the area of Southeast Central Avenue and East Chestnut Street. She stated that the sidewalks are a danger due to the fact that they are broken and jutting up out of the ground. Her concern with the striping in that area is that there is not striping at that particular intersection.

Independence is busy making last minute preparations for this weekend's upcoming festival.
The Independence Sicilian Heritage Festival will showcase a wide variety of music genres ensuring something for everyone's musical taste and a wide variety of authentic Sicilian and American foods for everyone's culinary tastes with entertainment ongoing throughout the festival which starts Friday March 12th, Saturday March 13th, and Sunday March 14th.

TPSO Worthless Checks Division

AMITE – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that the CID Worthless Checks Division is asking for your assistance in locating the following suspects:
Cherylyn T. Jackson, 29, of Milton Road is wanted by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office on two counts of issuing checks on a closed account.
Pamela Terrebonne, 55, of Springfield, is wanted by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office on three counts of issuing worthless checks in our Parish.

Saturday, March 6, 2010: Drop off locations listed

The Roseland Road and Bridge, located on Highway 51 in Roseland; and the Pleasant Ridge Office, located on Pleasant Ridge Road in Hammond, will be the sites to bring recycling items on Saturday, March 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Only household items of paper, plastic and aluminum will be accepted.
