“Celebrate What’s Great in 2008” at the Tangipahoa Parish Fair

The Tangipahoa Parish Fair opens Wednesday, October 1 and will run through Sunday, October 5 with “Celebrate What’s Great in 2008” as the theme. The fairgrounds are located behind Hood Memorial Hospital on Second Street.
On the schedule for opening day, Wednesday, October 1 Dianne de Las Casas “Jambalaya” will be performing at 9:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. She is an internationally touring, author and award-winning storyteller.
Shake, Rattle and Roll, the dance and cheerleading competition starts at 6 p.m. Jr. High and High School Dance and Cheer teams will be competing to see which one is the most "spirited" in the parish.
Also, the midway will open and the judging of the school booths will begin at 3 p.m. and an opening ceremony will be held under the pavilion at 5:45 p.m.
Thursday, October 2 the Senior Citizen's Pageant will be held with special guest Chris Gray. The baby and youth pageant begins at 5 p.m. “Doxx” rocks at 8:30 p.m. The mid-way will open at 3 p.m. with pay one price from 6 - 10 p.m.
Friday, October 3 is Education Day. Kajun 107.1 with Sugar Lips Chris Powers and the Finally Friday Crew will host a live broadcast from the fairgrounds beginning at 6 a.m. The Tangipahoa Parish parade will roll at 10 a.m. with Chris Powers as Grand Marshall. The parade will honor the Louisiana 4-H Club for 100 years of service. It will begin at the corner of South Duncan Street at proceed to the fairgrounds on Second Street. Local high school bands will perform under the pavillion immediately following the parade. Mid-way will open at 10 a.m. Bring your children to get their fingerprints and learn some tips to keep them safe - this service will be available all day.
Presentation of Awards will be held under the pavilion at noon. The spelling bee is set for 1 p.m. Local entertainers are scheduled to perform beginning at 3 p.m. There will be line dancing under the pavilion starting at 4 p.m. And Chris Gray will perform at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, October 4 the livestock show begins at 8 a.m. followed by the pet show at 9:30 a.m. The mid-way will open at 10 a.m. with pay one price rides from 1 - 5 p.m. Kid's activities begin at 2 p.m. with Sponge Bob, Dora the Explorer, and Spiderman. The Y-Knots square dancers perform at 5 p.m. The crowning of the new fair queen will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by entertainment by "Technical Difficulty."
On Sunday, October 5 a worship service will begin at 10 a.m., the mid-way will open at that time as well with pay one price rides from 1 - 5 p.m. followed by worship bands including Legacy, Sacred Harmony, Floyd and Stephanie Cooksey, The Cooksey Band, a Gospel Quartet and more. Display pick-up has been scheduled from 1 - 3 p.m. claim tickets must be shown.
The midway rides will be provided by Mac’s Carnival.
