The first Google foldable phone with 7.6” flexible screen is expected before the end of 2021. 3D renders show possible design of new Pixel Fold.
The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be released this fall. Simultaneously, the new Android 12 operating system is launched. However, it doesn’t seem to stop there. Several industry sources have now indicated that Google will present its first foldable smartphone before the end of 2021. The device may be marketed under the model name Pixel Fold.
The first Google foldable phone is expected to have an inwardly flexible screen. Based on all the rumors, graphic designer Waqar Khan has made a series of 3D renders of the expected Google Pixel Fold in collaboration with LetsGoDigital. The design is inspired by the Pixel 6 series.

The Pixel Fold renders show a similar design to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. There is a front display available with a punch-hole selfie camera, which is placed in the top left corner. The screen and frame edges are fairly thick, which will probably actually be the case. After all, it remains the first generation of folding phones for Google.
Once unfolded, the user has a large tablet screen at his disposal. A punch-hole camera is also integrated here, this time in the top right corner. The device is equipped with a similar hide-away hinge as Samsung uses.
Incidentally, on September 23, 2021, Google LLC was also granted a patent from the Unites States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a “Multi-axis soft hinge mechanism and foldable device having the same”. The 58-page documentation describes an advanced hinge mechanism, which is designed in such a way that there is only a small seam when the device is folded.
The patented hinge is suitable for a foldable smartphone with an inward folding display, which folds out to a tablet size. It is therefore possible that Google wants to use this type of hinge for the Pixel Fold.
A clamshell model is also discussed in the extensive documentation. At the bottom of this webpage you can download the .PDF, including extensive technical description and original patent images.
Coming back to the Pixel Fold designed by Waqar, it is the rear that bears strong resemblance to the Pixel 6 series. Although the launch event of the 6 series has yet to take place, Google already announced quite a few details in August this year – including the design.
The Pixel 6 gets a tricolor design with a vertical camera trim, which protrudes from the body. It is a distinctive and unique design, which the designer has also incorporated into the Pixel Fold. Even the zoom camera is reflected in the design.

Google foldable smartphone
Last year it was already announced that Google is developing a foldable smartphone codenamed ‘Passport’. More concrete information about the Google foldable that is under development followed in July this year. Then both The Elec and display analyst Ross Young reported that Google’s folding phone will feature a 7.6-inch flexible screen.
The screen size corresponds to the recently released Samsung Z Fold 3. Most likely a 120Hz LTPO display panel from Samsung Display will be used. Google, like Samsung, is expected to use Ultra Thin Glass technology. This will make the screen more resistant to scratches and bumps. It is still unknown what kind of screen protector will be applied.
There is also no information about the chipset at the moment. However, it is certainly not inconceivable that Google will also use the recently announced Tensor SoC for the Pixel foldable phone. It is Google’s first system-on-chip. The processor is named after Google’s open-source machine learning platform; TensorFlow.
It is reportedly an unannounced Samsung Exynos 9855 – which will offer somewhat similar performance to the Exynos 2100 used for the high-end Samsung Galaxy S21 series. The chip was developed in collaboration with AI engineers from Google. According to the tech giant, the Tensor chip will support the most powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Leaning (ML) functions ever.
It remains unknown for the time being what the camera configuration will look like. Although the product renders show a similar camera as the Pixel 6, it is not inconceivable that Google will in reality use a less advanced camera system.
Finally, Samsung also chooses to equip its folding phones with a less good camera than the regular high-end devices have. It is likely that Google will follow a similar strategy to keep the foldable smartphone somewhat affordable.
In addition, there are signs that the folding phone will be the first Google phone to be equipped with an under-display camera – just like the Galaxy Z Fold 3. In May this year, the company was already granted a patent for a Google Pixel smartphone with under-display camera. screen camera.
Apart from all the specs, many are of course particularly curious about the software optimizations that Google will implement. Because you can assume that Google will also introduce the necessary new features for large screen use. Recently, the company was also awarded a patent for a Google Pixel tablet – although it is highly questionable whether this model will ever be marketed.
As for the release date, last month, EvLeaks confirmed via Twitter that the foldable Pixel will be officially launched before the end of the year. Google has been working on the foldable smartphone for two years now. The device is being developed under code name ‘Passport’. The retail designation remains unknown.
Many assume that Google’s foldable devices, just like the regular phone models, will be housed within the Pixel model range. Since the folding phone will have a so-called Fold form factor, Google Pixel Fold seems a logical name, but this is not yet certain.
Google Pixel Fold Price & Release
Google’s first foldable smartphone may be introduced simultaneously with the Pixel 6 and Android 12 OS. A special launch event will be organized for this, which is expected to take place on October 19, 2021. The release of the Pixel 6 phones will take place a week later, on October 28. Whether the Pixel Fold will also go on sale remains to be seen.
No information is known about the price at the moment. Since the device will have a Fold form factor, it is likely that the sales price will be around €1,800 – €2,000. Unfortunately, Google smartphones are not officially sold in the Netherlands. This will probably be no different with the folding telephone. There is a real chance that the device will end up in our country via the gray import. In addition, you can buy Google phones in neighboring Germany.
It also seems that Google has another folding phone in the works. 9To5Google reported last month that the company is also developing a foldable model codenamed “Jumbojack.” Nevertheless, it is likely that Google will initially stick to one model. Perhaps the second model will appear in 2022. Either way, there seems to be plenty of beauty ahead.
