Kentwood Spring Clean Up Day a big success

Something special happened in Kentwood on Saturday, April 25. On this cloudy spring day, a group of eager volunteers came together to help clean up the town.
The Spring Cleanup Day was organized and led by Mayor Irma Gordon and the council men and women of the town. Together, they put into motion an effort to organize the supplies and volunteers of the community to clean up the town. On the day of cleaning, about 100 volunteers met at the park pavilion next to the community center where trash bags, gloves, grabbers, and dumpsters were available.
Together, teams of volunteers focused on picking up trash along the streets. Property owners brought in tires, old couches, scrap metal and just trash in general to be hauled off.
Once clean up was complete, volunteers were served a free lunch of hot dogs, chili, potato chips and water.
Given the day’s success, more Kentwood clean up days are being planned.
A note from Mayor Irma Gordon:
Mayor Irma Gordon, the town council members, and the citizens of Kentwood gives special thanks to everyone who participated in the Spring Clean Up Day. The day was beautiful, though it rained around noon, we were able to get a lot of work done. Our town is small, but yet really big when it comes to servicing it. We are so very proud of our people because they want better and are willing to work hard to accomplish better. “Our town looks so much better, it is cleaner and we will not stop here. We will continue to strive for perfection. Together we can do it, for all that we do is for the better of our citizens and our town.”
“We will have more clean up days for our town, but do we have to wait for a clean-up day, to clean-up? Let’s make it a part of who we are as Kentwoodians, we are the best people from the best hometown to live, Kentwood, Louisiana. Thank you.” Mayor Irma T. Gordon
