Red Cross puts emphasis on smoke detectors

Representatives with the American Red Cross spoke to Amite Rotarians on July 18 about the importance of smoke detectors. Tatiana Begault, Disaster Program Specialist for the Northshore region, and Chris Nuebel, Development Officer over donor relations for the Red Cross New Orleans/Baton Rouge, were the guest speakers.

Begault and Nuebel began their presentation by discussing the Innovative Readiness Training, which was held at Amite High Magnet School over the past two weeks. Begault noted that the military was providing free health care including basic medical, eye and dental exams.

The Red Cross was also on site providing what Begault calls “pillowcase education” for children and talking to locals about smoke detectors.
