Five arrested and charged with human trafficking in Amite

AMITE, LA – (July 7, 2016) – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the following:
Five subjects arrested and charged with Human Trafficking and Cruelty to the Infirm: Raylaine Knope (40), Bridget Lambert (19), Taylor Knope (18), Jody Lambert (21), and Terry Knope (43).
On June 30th 2016, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigator’s executed a search warrant at a residence located on Rushing Lane in Amite, LA. after receiving a complaint that the occupants of the home were keeping a 22 year old female locked up in a cage on the property.
Upon arrival at the residence, Investigator’s located the 22 year old female wondering around in the back yard of the residence. Investigator’s say the 22 year old female suffers Autism and was forced to live in a make shift shelter which consisted of a blue tarp draped over a cage somewhat resembling a dog kennel. She was often locked in the cage at night in order to keep her from wondering off. Investigator’s said that upon speaking with her, she appeared to be malnourished and suffered from numerous insect bites.
Located inside the shelter was a five gallon bucket in which she was forced to defecate in and all of her personal belongings. The 22 year old, whose name is not being released at this time, was transported to local area hospital where she was evaluated.
The young woman was then placed in the care and custody of the Louisiana Department of Health, Adult/Elderly Protective Services.
In addition four juveniles were removed from the residence and placed in the care and custody of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services. The case is still ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
Updated information from TPSO - Over the course of the investigation, investigators discovered that the accused conspired to transport the young woman to a specific location with the intention of prostituting her out to multiple male subjects for money. This resulted in the five subjects being charged with Human Trafficking.
