Catholic Church project set for vote on March 6
The Amite City Council held a special meeting on Friday, February 23 to discuss the resolution proposed by St. Helena Catholic Church for permission to close West Chestnut Street between South First Street and South Second Street.
In the church’s proposition, the hours of closure would be Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday nights from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Councilmen Rose Sumrall, Neil Currier and Kris Hart were present on the council but did not vote on the matter.
Father Mark Beard, Jeff McKneely with House on the Rock and Parish President Robby Miller addressed the council during the public input segment of the meeting and voiced their approval for the project.
