Healthy Communities holds first “Yoga for Kids”
By JESSE BROOKS
St. Helena Parish area youth were treated to a new experience last Thursday as LSU AgCenter’s Healthy Communities hosted their first ever “Yoga for Kids” session at Audubon Regional Library in Greensburg.
In rural St. Helena Parish, yoga studios may be hard to find. Area Agent Bianca Plant said that yoga is a new initiative being promoted by LSU Ag.
“There always seems to be yoga for adults, but it’s hard to find yoga programs for kids,” Plant said. “We’re trying to incorporate it in our summer programs and libraries. We’ll try to introduce it to the school district in the year. It’s something that’s new, and kids seem to enjoy it as well.”
Plant says that the pressures kids face in school and their daily lives can mount up, and yoga is a practice in wellness that can alleviate that kind of stress.
